What driver’s license do I need?
A valid license from your home country is accepted in Botswana as long as it’s in English (or accompanied by an International Driving Permit for translation). You should be 21 or older with at least 2 years of driving experience to rent our 4×4.
What is included in my rental?
Your rate includes a meet and greet on arrival with a full vehicle briefing, unlimited kilometers, standard insurance with a USD 3,000 excess for damage and theft, authorization and police clearance for border crossings, transfers from the nearest airport pick up and drop off at our depots, standard 4×4 equipment, all applicable taxes, final cleaning, and books on African fauna and flora.
How far can I drive?
Unlimited kilometers! Botswana is big and we want you to see as much of it as you desire. The only thing we track is that the vehicle stays within the countries agreed (Botswana and neighbors if you have clearance). Go wild, no per km charges here.
How does insurance and excess work, and can I reduce it?
Standard cover is included with a USD 3,000 excess. You can add Option 1 Collision and Theft Waiver to reduce the excess to USD 1,500 for USD 10 per day, or Option 2 to reduce the excess to zero for USD 20 per day. Tyre and windscreen cover is available for USD 10 per day. A credit card security deposit is taken on the day of collection. Damage caused by driver negligence is not covered.
Which extras are optional and what do they cost?
Additional driver or newly licensed driver costs USD 5 per day. Camping equipment costs USD 25 per day and is already included if you booked the Camping Version. GPS with Tracks4Africa maps is available on request at an extra cost. A local driver can be arranged on request and is quoted separately.
How do pick up and drop off work?
Transfers from the nearest airport are included. You can collect and return the vehicle at our depots at no extra charge. Pick up or drop off at locations other than our offices can be arranged at an additional cost.
What are my responsibilities during the rental?
You are responsible for fuel, tolls, border taxes visas fines, and any administrative costs related to fines or compensation requests from authorities. You also cover roadside assistance and recovery costs unless there is a mechanical failure. A credit card security deposit is required at collection and any damage excluded from insurance including negligence, remains your liability.
Can you help with campsite or lodge bookings?
Absolutely! We are happy to recommend and even book campsites or lodges for you, free of charge as part of our service. We can guide you to available options or refer you to a partner who specializes in reservations. Just let us know your rough itinerary and we’ll assist.
